Plan Your Visit
Everything you need for an easy stay
The valley is small and a little remote — that’s the charm. Here’s where we send friends to eat, fuel up, provision, and find the good local stuff. (You’ll find a current version in the guidebook at the house, too.)
Stocking up: Camden Food Mart, right at the end of our road, has gas, breakfast sandwiches, coffee, ice cream cones and basics — and you can order ahead online. The
Shop ’n Save in Davis is the full grocery, and
Mountain Owl Market up by Timberline is handy for local meats and staples. For the best produce and meat, time your trip around a farmers market (below).
⛽ Fuel & quick stops
- Camden Food Mart — the little mart at the end of our road, with gas, griddle breakfast, sandwiches, burgers, ice cream cones & basics. You can order ahead online, then walk the mile down the country road to pick up your breakfast sandwich and coffee — the first-and-last stop
- BFS — gas & general store on Rt 32, across from Canaan Valley BBQ (by the MountainTop office)
- Midway Service Station — gas & diesel in Harman

🎨 Local art & artisans
Much of the art on the walls here comes from local makers — including the photography we bought at the WV Highlands Artisans Gallery in Davis, a cooperative of West Virginia artists and photographers. Look for work by Beth Spencer and Jesse Thornton. Historic Front Street in Thomas is the arts heart of the valley, too, with more galleries and studios within a short stroll.
🚗 Services & good-to-knows
- Fuel & quick bites: Camden Food Mart at the end of our road; Midway in Harman.
- Non-emergency care (local) — St. George Canaan Valley Clinic (Davis) and Mountaintop Health Center (Thomas) are close by for walk-ins
- In an emergency: dial 911. The guidebook at the house lists the nearest ER and pharmacies.
- Connectivity: cell is spotty in the valley; the house has strong Starlink Wi-Fi for calls and streaming.
- Winter driving: our road is rural and plowing can lag — 4WD/AWD is a must when there’s snow.
💐 Small gatherings & celebrations
The house and the 65 acres make a lovely backdrop for a small family milestone — a reunion, an anniversary, an intimate elopement by the river. A few local folks who help make those special:
- Canaan Valley Flower Co. — local florist for valley weddings and celebrations
- Cake & sweets: Happy & More Bakery (Thomas) for cakes and cinnamon rolls.
- Live music: the Purple Fiddle books regional acts and can point you to musicians.
Planning more than a small gathering? Please check with MountainTop Realty first — larger events have their own considerations (insurance, parking, and capacity).
